For decades I suffered substantial chronic pain from a scoliosis condition during careers as a professional dancer, dance teacher, and body worker. I’ve tried many modalities to relieve the chronic pain, including deep tissue massage, acupressure, acupuncture, yoga, and chiropractic techniques. These sometimes helped but only temporarily.

When I discovered Hanna Somatics, I realized that it offered a very different approach to pain relief. The key is changing the mapping in the brain, and the signal from the brain that governs the muscle function.

Somatic movements are very pleasurable, gentle, slow, and leave the whole body more pain free, de-stressed, and smarter physically. Hanna Somatics is about envisioning, promoting, and sustaining the smartest, freest version of YOU!

TRAINING THE BODY/BRAIN

Hanna Somatics is a system for changing muscle function. It’s a way of re-training the body/brain via first-person experience of the body. The word Somatics comes from  soma for body and from the Greek somatikos. It means relating to the body, experienced and controlled from within. The system was developed by the late neuromuscular pioneer, Thomas Hanna, PhD.
