Two Somatic Solutions Workshops/One Day:
Upper Body And Lower Body

Workshop Leader: Laura M Gates, CHSE, CCSE, NYC

These classes offer you a one day emersion into the movement practice, self-care techniques to use for a lifetime, and an enhancement to all your activities. You will take home illustrated materials to support your learning. Mostly on mats, with some sitting and standing, we will explore a therapeutic movement technique whose main ingredients are slow, mindful motion, gentle effort, with powerful results. Everyone will work relative to their own body’s signals, avoiding pain and stretch, and make use of the brain and nervous system’s natural ability to change itself through motion. The techniques are appropriate for athletes and non-athletes, all ages and fitness levels. We will re-educate the brain's signal to the muscles for a smarter body, greater ease of movement, less pain, improved posture, performance with benefit to every system of the body. Each class will end with some brief standing playful movement explorations to celebrate the changes in our body!

SOMATIC SOLUTIONS:

For Upper Body

10:00 AM-12:15 PM

This class will focus on torso, shoulders, neck and posture, to open up the front of body, the ribs, for more oxygen, confident stance, ease of movement. This class addresses pain and tension in the upper torso, spine, neck, and may be helpful for headaches, improving lymphatic health, oxygen intake and more.


LUNCH

12:15-1:30 PM

Lots of lunch options nearby or bring your own. Kitchen on site. 


SOMATIC SOLUTIONS:

For Lower Body

1:30 PM-3:45 PM

 This class will focus on torso, lumbar spine, hips, pelvis, upper legs and will offer somatic movement techniques to mobilize, bring ease and comfort, and more intelligent movement. This class well addresses sciatica, sacroiliac joint and other kinds of pelvic pain, improving walking, running, dancing, balance, and more.

Laura M Gates, CHSE, CCSE is a certified practitioner, educator, and on the teaching team at Essential Somatics LLC, with trainings offered internationally. She brings to her work a background in professional dance, movement education, and study of kinesthetic anatomy.  Hanna (Clinical) Somatic Education, is a hands-on technique, a movement practice, and a comprehensive system for changing the brain's signal to the muscles developed by the late neuromuscular pioneer, Thomas Hanna PhD.
